Finding The Right Emo Mullet Haircut

Photo of emo mullet haircut.
emo mullet haircut

Struggling with what hairstyle to pick can be a challenge. Some guys like the short shaved look, while others prefer a longer style. There are several ways that a man can figure out what style looks good based on his face shape and style. The Emo Mullet Haircut is a style that is becoming more popular. Find out what this style looks like and if it would be attractive on you.

Everyone has their own sense of style. That is what makes changing a hairstyle so difficult for some people. To have a haircut like an Emo guy, the trick is to grow out the hair in a slight manner. The hair should be cut around the face, while keeping the strands long. When the hair is cut, the next step is to have it blow dried and brushed outward toward the face.

A mullet is where the hair is longer at the back then in the front. This look is great for someone who wants long hair, but doesn't want it in their face while they are doing their day to day activities. The length of hair is typically not too long, and may just sit around the shoulders.

The strands of hair around the side of the face are typically shorter than the back. From the side, it could appear that the style is cut right over the ears. In the front, the strands of hair would be brushed around the face. The back of the head, would feature long and flowing hair.

This particular hairstyle is easy to cut and maintain. A haircut every few weeks is all that it takes to keep a hairstyle at the optimal length. Once the techniques of brushing and styling it are practiced, it will seem like an easy one to copy each and every day.

Emo Mullet Haircut styles are being asked for at the hair dressers. More stylists are seeing this kind of cut than any other kind, among a certain age group of young men. If you think your face and style could support a look like this, then give it a try.

The haircut known as the mullet is short at the front but longer at the back. It is different to the cut known as the rattail. This is where there is a long thin length of hair hence the name rattail. Even though it is more common on men, it is popular with people of both genders and ages. The notion is party at the back and business on the front. People will often mirror famous people like David Bowie to achieve the Duane Chapman mullet hair.

The hairstyle has been around for forty years and began in the nineteen seventies when icons such as David Bowie started the trend. Before this, he would wear his hair long. There is an urban legend that fishermen sported long hair on the back to keep the cold from their neck. That is how the term mullet came about.

Ziggy Stardust aka David Bowie sported a rather bright orange colored mullet. At that time, the shape of the mullet was rather squared. In 1980, styles changed to big and voluminous. Men went a little mad and began spiking their hair and highlighting their hair blonde. One such celebrity that sported this style is Billy Ray Cyrus in the nineties. Numerous people attempted to carry the style off while others simply could not stand it.

In nineteen ninety-five there was an article written in a magazine and it slated the hairstyle pretty badly. This article contained shots of famous people wearing the hairstyle. There was one band in particular where every member of the band had the hairstyle and young people copied him or her.

To this day, numerous people still try to copy the Duane Chapman mullet hairstyle. Another celebrity people want to copy is David Bowie. Then there is still the legendary Billy Ray Cyrus.

The Influence Of Captain Planet Mullet Hair

Photo of Captain Planet mullet hair.
Captain Planet mullet hair

When it comes down to it, hairstyles have seen some pretty palpable extremes. Some of the best examples of this through time would be the Flock of Seagulls hairstyle, the Mohawk, liberty spikes, and so many others. Another style that is still trying to survive times would be the mullet. A good example of this would be the Captain Planet mullet hair style.

When you are thinking about mullets in general, there are a few different things that you are going to need to know and understand. There are a few more things to consider when it comes to understanding the majesty and influence of such a powerful mullet as what was seen on Captain Planet.

The first thing that you need to understand would be who Captain Planet is in case the reference eludes you. Captain Planet is the defender of Earth against a slew of bad guys that aim to pollute and litter up our world. He is aided by a team of kids each with an ability to control different elements in nature: earth, wind, fire, water and heart.

What you might not have known about Captain Planet, would be influence that he had on the young and old alike in hair style. His infamous mullet might be something of a punch line in this day and age, but back when the show was in its prominence through the nineties, people all over the globe were lining up to look like Captain Planet.

If you were not entirely sure what one of these hairstyles actually is, you will need to appreciate it to understand why it must be included among fad hairstyles of the past. The mullet is created by cutting the hair short on the top of the head and then allowing the back of the hair to grow out long.

So while there might be several different people still rocking this hairstyle, the time of its dominance has certainly passed. Much of its success can be gauged through the influence experienced from seeing Captain Planet mullet hair.

How To Get Bono Mullet Hair

Photo of Bono mullet hairstyle.
Bono mullet hairstyle

Bono is one of the most famous musicians in the world and is also a style icon. He has gone through a number of different hair styles, which have included short hair, long hair, and mullets. If you are interested in his earlier sense of style and wish to get a Bono mullet hair cut, this article will tell you how.

There are many different kinds of mullets. Typically, hair that is very short on the sides, short on the top, and then long in the back is classified as a mullet. However, the lengths will vary based upon the chosen mullet style.

Before you decide to get a mullet, you should think about whether it is right for you. Very few people can pull off this style. Also, the mullet did have a recent resurgence in certain parts of the world, but the style is very different from what it was back when Bono was sporting one.

Picture of Bono mullet hair.

The mullet that was worn by Bono was not the average mullet. It had a very distinct shape and was styled in a very specific way. To capture this look, you will have to get every detail down perfectly, from the varying lengths to the size and shape of the hair.

Photo of Bono mulet.
Bono mulet style

This specific mullet was quite long in the back. This part of the hair actually extended slightly past the shoulders. The sides of the hair were considerably shorter than the back, but there was at least a few inches of hair growth.

The top part of this style gets a bit tricky. The very front of the hair is actually longer than the rest of the hair on top of the head. This part of the hair also includes some streaked highlights and is teased to be a bit fluffier.

The Bono mullet will be difficult to pull off. If it is not right for you, there are many other styles that you can try. Experiment to find the right style for you.

The Fashion Mullet Hairstyle

Photo of Fashion Mullet Hairstyle
Mullet hairstyle

The fashion mullet hairstyle is not a new trend although it's somewhat popular at the present time. It originated in the 1960's and in the 1990's it was called a hair disaster. Popularity faded but today it is considered a hip hop style and is worn by both men and women who like to be classified as one of this group.

The hair is cut very short on the sides and front of the head and left long in back. The hair is shagged (cut unevenly) which results in a rather dis-leveled look. It's very popular with hipsters who wear heavy tattoos and clothing such as jeans and black shirts. There are a variety of this cut, including having layered cuts on top and, at one time, it was even given a permanent wave.

The hair falls into place so if the hair is not combed it is impossible to tell the difference. It is considered very high style by the hip hop crowd and is now being adapted by high school students. At rave parties one will find many participants with this type of hair style.

Having this type of hair do makes the younger men and women feel they are up on the latest and most popular trend. Those who wear this type of hair cut also state there are many advantages to having it. Among other things that it need not be washed or groomed for long period of times. Also, that the appearance shows 'party animal' with the long hair and 'business' with the short hair in front.

Some of the wearers of this hairstyle have back hair that reaches the middle of the spine. As with any hair this long there can be problems, especially if one is working. Some braid it or put it in a ponytail, others just let it hang.

In 1999 the Gucci Menswear fashion selection featured men models wearing mullet hairstyles. In this presentation the hair was cut extremely short, almost buzzed, on top and front with long hair in the back. It's believed that this is what returned this particular hair style to the current scene.

The Ever Sexy Girl Mullet

Photo of blonde femmullet hair
blonde femmullet hair

The girl mullet, female mullet, femmullet, whatever you want to call it, is a hairstyle worn by few, mastered by fewer, and attempted by many at the risk of failure.

To wear the femmullet, you need to be okay with that, you need to be okay with the potential of becoming the Icarus of hair. It's not something that just anybody can pull off. In the wrong hands, it can be a travesty, but in the right hands, it can transform your entire lifestyle.

We're not talking about the Joan Jett, pseudo-mullet. While sexy, Jett played it safe with that style. She knew better than to tempt fate by wearing a true femmullet on stage.

Photo of Joan Jett mullet hairstyle.

No, we're talking about shaved on the sides, long in the back, feathered and short on top female mullets. The real deal, one hundred percent pure.

Picture of female mullet haircut.
Female mullet haircut with short sides

How do you attain this style? Very carefully. Before you even consider this do, you'll need to be prepared, because the style doesn't look good at all unless coupled with a few accessories: A sleeveless men's t-shirt, tucked in and preferably with some sort of attitude slogan on the front. A pair of tight, acid wash jeans. And finally, a cigarette. If you don't smoke, get some herbal cigarettes and put them in a pack of camels.

Now if you're ready to proceed, you'll want to have a pair of good scissors, some buzz clippers and some styling product like mousse, gel or, preferably, spray. This style looks better the shinier your hair is, so conditioning is a must.

For the first variation, you'll need long hair, and then to trim it to a few inches long, or to your own preference, on the top. From there you can tease it and style it as you please, so long as it stands up on end and the back, the party end, is feathered nicely.

The second variation is the same as the first, but with one incredibly daring difference. You take the clippers, and you trim the sides like a buzz cut. As we said, it's a potentially dangerous variation, and should be done only by the truly brave. If you're even more daring than that, try clipping a saying or image into the side, as well.

Mullet Haircuts: 25 Years Of History

Picture of Tom Jones mullet hairstyle.
Tom Jones mullet hairstyle

Originally popularized during the 1960s by Tom Jones, mullet haircuts were adopted by icons such as Phil Collins, Michael Bolton, Paul McCartney and David Bowie. In parts of the northern United States, in Canada, Scandinavia and Sweden, the haircut is called hockey hair. This relates to the fact that during the 1980s, many hockey players wore the hair style.

Photo of Paul McCartney shaggy mullet hair.
Paul McCartney shaggy mullet hair

The style was worn by men through the 1980s, with some variations. It has again become popular during the last decade by those men wanting a slightly retro appearance. The style features hair short on the sides and top, while the back remains long. The length in back may be collar length or even longer. Some consider the style unattractive and lowbrow in character, but it has remained culturally popular.

The song "Mullet Head" was recorded and released by the "Beastie Boys" in 1994. Their fan magazine is the first known appearance of the term mullet in print. Australian rules football players popularized the style on the Australian continent during the 1980s. In fact, the style was adopted by players in several different sports such as hockey. It was closely identified with Germany youth, sometimes negatively, because of its popularity in the country during the period surrounding the fall of Berlin Wall divisions.

The mullet style was kept in the forefront throughout the 80s because of wear by sports figures and appearance in songs, television shows and movies. The look is associated with country and western songs, blue collar workingmen and heavy metal sounds. The Mullets was a short lived television show of the 2003-2004 season; the movies Joe Dirt and Gummo promoted the look and the lifestyle linked to it. Hannah Montana's Billy Ray Cyrus jokes about his distinctive mullet haircut in the television show.

Some other instances where this style is or was popular include Lebanese-Australian men and Czech sports figures. Thugs in the UK are linked to the mullet style. Working class connections and sports connection are each linked to the distinctive hairstyle.

Over the years, the appearance has changed somewhat. A fuller bouffant look appeared in the 1990s, including a permanent or curled back section. The song by the musical group Vandals referred to the Ape Drape, which is another name for the mullet.

Which Types Of Mullets Are Right For You?

The mullet is an important piece of cultural heritage. Many will look at the mullet and just chuckle, but fact is: The native Americans had braids and mohawks, African warriors have tribal paint, and folks from the American south have the mullet. It's who you are, be proud of all types of mullets.

The mullet encompasses both aspects of the good ol' boy image. When you're walking towards someone, they'll say to themselves "Wow, this guy's all business". As you're leaving, though, they'll say "But man, I guess he knows how to party..."

So which mullet is right for you? Read on and find out...

The Traditional Mullet

Image of traditional mullet
Flattop mullet

The most common mullet is simply the flat top with the long, straight hair in the back. To get this mullet, just get out the buzz clippers and trim the sides and the top till it looks good. This mullet is great for pretty much anyone, but it looks especially distinctive with lighter blond hair colors.

The Billy Ray Cyrus
Picture of Billy Ray Cyrus Mullet
Billy Ray Cyrus mullet

Billy Ray Cyrus' mullet became synonymous with the song itself, Achey Breaky Heart. You probably remember it as getting more and more whimsical every time he came out. One time he might have adorned it with a rat tail, another with some braids and beads. The consistent elements, though, were the slightly shaggy look and the sense of imagination when it comes to decorating and styling it.

The Snake Plissken
Photo of snake plissken
Snake Plissken

Snake Plissken's mullet blurred the line between the mullet and "hippie hair". This represented that he was, above all else, an All American character, but that he had grown disillusioned with the American government. This style looks great on just about anyone, and represents a cool, detached, healthy American cynicism, but it looks best on someone who can back it up, someone with martial arts training or some twenty four inch biceps.

The Secret Of The Patrick Swayze Mullet

Photo of Patrick Swayze Mullet
Patrick Swayze mullet

The legendary Patrick Swayze was a rare leading man, to say the least. How many movie stars can you name who were capable of making a cheesy romance movie one year, then turning around and putting out a cult classic guy-flick like Road House the next? Maybe Mel Gibson and one or two others, but it's not a very long list. What was his appeal? How is it that this man was able to make the women swoon, and still be referenced by name in the lyrics of a DMX gangsta rap song? It may have been the Patrick Swayze mullet.

This hair style is as much a legend as the man himself. A cutting edge advancement on mullet technology, we still do not have the science to recreate it to this day. You may think "Oh it's just the same thing as Kurt Russel had in Escape From New York!" but you are wrong. Russel's shaggy locks lent him a true tough guy appeal, that's for certain, but it did him no favors as a lady's man, which, honestly, completely misses the point of wearing a mullet in the first place.

Picture of Patrick Swayze mullet haircut
Patrick Swayze mullet haircut

Swayze's mullet was a much more brazen, bold, and dangerous look. In the hands of a lesser mulletologist, it may have simply looked like a typical trailer park mullet, but in Swayze's capable hands, it was perhaps the greatest mullet Hollywood had ever seen.

What made it so special? It is certainly more than the sum of its parts. The front is a standard Duck Butt, like Elvis wore, while the back, the party end of the deal, was a gorgeous mane of dirty bond that somehow straddled the line between shaggy and well kept.

The trick might have been in Swayze's conditioner, rumored to have been custom formulated out of rare South American tree saps and a very small dose of plutonium. Whatever the case, Swayze took his secret to the grave, which may be for the best. This secret was not meant to fall into the wrong hands lest the process of natural selection fall to anarchy.

Some of the finest and most brilliant mullet researchers on the planet have tried to ape this look, but to no avail.

Our advice is to simply experiment with different shampoos and conditioners, try teasing it in different ways, use some mousse or gel or spray, and if you manage to recreate the look to perfection, guard the secret with your life.

How To Choose A Mullet Wig

Photo of mullet hair wig
Mullet hair wig

Mullet is a hairstyle that is almost impossible to forget. Forever associated with men who liked to appear masculine but ended up looking just odd, a mullet is an option that will forever be associated with the 1980s. If you have a fancy dress party coming up or an eighties theme party then you can guaranteed that by using a new mullet wig as part of your outfit you will get a lot of laughs. Mullet wigs are available in almost every conceivable size, color, texture, and shape.

Even today there are some men and women that still style their hair in this manner. Just take a look out of your window, maybe the delivery driver in the van parked across the street has a mullet or perhaps the man mowing next doors lawn has a waterfall type mullet cascading down his back. We shouldn't just think it's in the US that mullets are a common site. People with questionable taste have been wearing mullets for many decades on every continent.

Before you get hold of a mullet wig you should think about the exact style that you want. There are spiky mullets, dreadlocked mullets, silver mullets, and multi-colored options available that can give you an appearance like you have just stepped back in time.

Of course you will also need the right clothes to complete the look. How about a Hulk Hogan, Billy Ray Cyrus, or Jon Bon Jovi T-shirt with a pair of acid washed jeans and some big and bright trainers?

If your local fancy dress store does not stock mullet wigs then you can easily pick up the perfect design online. Also the cost available through a website would likely be less than if you were to make a purchase from a normal retail outlet.

Rock Band Mullets For A Style Change

Photo of rock band mulletRock band mullets have evolved from a long history of hair throughout the ages. Over the years it has defined the style of different ages, but through all the centuries it has been clearly defined as a hairstyle that encompasses short hair for the front and sides of the head, but longer hair in the back of the neck.

Viewed front on this appears as a simple and neat business cut but viewed from the rear its a wild bush of long hair. We can thank the Egyptian people, particularly the pharaohs, for introducing this hairstyle to the world. The Egyptians wore wigs of black wool that was short in the front and sides but was worn long down the neck and back.

The Celtic tribes adopted a wilder, shaggier version of the Egyptian mullet. They also introduced the idea of coloring their hair, mostly in shades of woad or green. Dying of the hair in different colors has been adopted by the more rebellious genres of our society and include bikers, wrestlers and rockers

Over the centuries the mullet has enjoyed various revivals and been adapted to suit different styles. The Grecian men chose to braid their hair and wore slender ringlets close to their scalps, allowing their fine braids to flow freely down their broad backs.

The mullet was reborn in the era of Napoleon Bonaparte, where it was straighter and more simplified. Privileged English youths adopted this more romantic style, which can be seen in paintings that date from this era in our illustrious history. The mystique of the mullet travelled to the new world, being adopted by the native American Indian tribes of the United States.

Over time iconic rock stars like David Bowie had adopted the look to define a new age in fashion. The well renowned singer Rod Stewart has worn this style for many years and it has been adopted by other celebrities too. The tennis star, Andre Agassi, wore a mullet at the high point of his career and the actor Patrick Swayze starred in the film Dirty Dancing sporting a mullet.

How The Mullet Wig Started

Photo of mullet wigA number of people do not exactly know where the mullet wig came from. This is perfectly understandable when you eventually know how far into history this hairstyle actually goes. Comprising of long locks of hair this style is very much similar to Rastafarian dreadlocks. The only difference is that the locks of hair are not as many and not as thick as dreadlocks. Anyway, let us get deep into how this style actually became what it is today, a flashy global hair trend.

For your own information the mullet is yet another hairstyle adopted from the commoner and attributed to celebrities. This is to say this style was not popular until celebrities in the 1970s and 1960s started manipulating its humble origins. David Bowie and Ziggy Stardust started the very first experimental phase with a rather jittery start riddled with much nervousness.

I mean, what would you do if you tried out a hairstyle that everyone might end up laughing at? However, this very modest beginning was in later years to be sabotaged by women readily embracing gender rights. So Florence Henderson stepped up a gear and established herself as the first female celebrity to try it out, and boy was it a resounding success.

But this is just a tip of an iceberg melting at the hands of a planet warming up gradually. Michael Bolton, Phil Collins and Hulk Hogan then took advantage of a growing media industry to set it apart from the normal trend it had begun to become. Eventually more and more celebrities started trying it, with the obvious result of people going out of their way to have it.

So as you go through this article you might be thinking, why not? If anything people around you will love it. Just try it out and see how well people respond to it. And even if they do not it does not matter, it is a fine hairstyle all the same.

Do you want to grow a mullet? If so you are not alone, it is a hairstyle that is now coming back into fashion. Originally the look was made popular in the 1980s thanks to entertainers such as Billy Ray Cyrus and David Hasselhoff, for a while it was not thought of being so cool, but now it is once again all the rage.

To start with, to get the look you will need medium to long hair. You probably already are aware that the look includes hair which is lengthy at the back and short on the top and at the front and sides. It is possible to create the style yourself, though for the best results it can pay to visit a hair salon and let the professionals craft the appearance.

There are a number of variations on the look that you may want to experiment with. For example you can combine the mullet with a mohawk or corn rows to really stand out from the crowd. If you hair is not long enough for a mullet then there is also the option of having extensions added to your hair to get the desired appearance in almost no time at all. You may even want to add color to your hair for a look that really turns heads.

Think about whether you want a curly mullet or a straight one. This would not only depend upon the way your hair is naturally but also your lifestyle and interests. Maintaining a mullet once it has been cut is actually not that hard. All that is really required is to keep the front and sides trimmed on a regular basis.

Remember that if you ever feel you want to hide your mullet away for a particular appointment or event then it can be done easily with a hair band.

Understanding Michael Bolton's Mullet Hairstyle

Have you ever wondered where Michael Bolton's mullet hairstyle came from? This hair cut is first noticed in the 60s. Some popular personalities appear with it. Basically, it is a haircut with the front and the sides trimmed. The back is allowed to grow long. In some cases, it can look quite nice. This usually depends on who is wearing it.

This hairstyle survived the 80s and 90s. It died out a bit. However, it seems to be making a comeback, today. Perhaps you are considering this look for yourself. Here are a few things that you may wish to consider first.

Do you live in the United States? Do you like country and western music? Are you a blue collar person? Do you like heavy metal music? This may be a good look for you.

Working on your new style

Do you have hair that grows very fast? You may consider a longer version of this style. Maybe your hair does not grow fast. Perhaps it curls or frizzes. You would be best going for a shorter style.

One good way is to go to your favorite hair salon. Maybe your significant other is good at cutting hair. This is even better. Tell them exactly what you want. They will crop the top and sides of your hair. The rest will be allowed to grow long. Each time you return, they will continue to cut the sides and top. There are some advantages to this method.

You will get a very good idea as to what it looks like in stages. Perhaps it looks really good after a few months. You may opt to go for this look permanently.

Another way is to simply let your hair grow long. Then you can have it trimmed to the desired length. This method is cheaper. It may only require one salon visit, to achieve. You will also not have to worry about taking care of it, as you grow your hair.

You will need occasional maintenance on your new hair. This depends on the exact style. Your salon stylist can advise you on the best products to use.

How To Get The Hulk Hogan Hair

Photo of Hulk Hogan mullet hair

Find yourself goin' bald, brother!? Don't sweat it! Thanks to guys like me and Mean Gene, bald is the new not-bald! If you're lookin' to sport a rock and roll Hulk Hogan hair 'do without nothin' on top, just follow these steps to glory!

Grow it out! Before you can look like a champ, you gotta wait around... Like a champ... For your hair to grow! The Hulk Hogan style is all about length, brother. You want it down a little past the chin!

Once it's grown out long enough, give it a trim! A real champ doesn't go around looking like a chump, you gotta keep it neat and squared off! You don't want to look like a pencil pusher either, of course, so leave it a little uneven for a real wild look!

Get yourself some peroxide and bleach it, brother! Back when I got my start, they wanted me to dye my hair red and play a stereotypical Irishman theme, but I told'em the Hulkamaniacs don't roll that way, brother!

Now that you're sporting the champ's haircut, the more ambitious Hulkamaniacs out there can try for the Hulkster 'stach! Just grow out a regular goatee and sideburns, and shave the chin, brother!

Now hit the gym, tan up, and get those twenty four inch pythons ready for battle! Get yourself some cheap tearaway t-shirts and a bandana or two and you're ready to go for the gold!

The 1980s were a decade where bigger was definitely better. Everything from the music to the popular hair styles were wild and over the top. In the decades that followed the laid back ideology of the 1970s hippies, music took a turn towards excess. The lead guitarist famed for big rock band Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora mullet hair styles took his fame to a new level.

By the mid eighties every young boy wanted to sport a hair style just like their rock idols. Perms and aerosol cans of hairspray made every wild hair style within reach. As the concept of men with mullet hair styles revolutionised, it was mainly the hair cut that made you an all-star.

A mullet is a hairstyle where the hair in the front and top of the head is cut shaggy and short and the back of the hair is grown long. The mullet is also best known for its unisex application, there was no gender discrimination when it was first introduced as the most trendy style of the eighties.

Today the mullet is considered to be a relic of the past party years. Not commonly worn in the nineties it is more a joke than a hair style now. In the decades of the twenty first century the mullet is most commonly referred to as a redneck or trucker hair cut. The youth of today are not savvy enough unlike their peers to truly appreciate the mullet let alone wear the dual purpose hairdo.

However, to this day the band Bon Jovi still performs all over the world with Sambora as the rocking lead guitarist. His fame, sex appeal and hair seem to be as big as ever.

Samboras pictures are downloaded and set as screensavers and backgrounds for thousands of computer users every day. No one seems to mind the crazy hair style; it is almost as if the mullet is as much a part of our love for him as his amazing guitar solos. It takes a true icon to make a mullet look good. The hair style may be dated, but rock on Richie Sambora.
